ABOUT GREEN COMFORT SCHOOL OF HERBAL MEDICINE

Founded by Teresa Boardwine, RH (AGH) in 1994, Green Comfort’s mission is to offer a variety of educational opportunities for herbal studies, support the health of our local community, and preserve native medicinal plants in the process. One of our primary annual programs is Foundations of Medicinal Herbalism, which is based on the pathophysiologic systems, phytochemistry, and actions of the plants. Our Herbal Apothecary course is for the herbal novice, offering a hands-on laboratory approach to creating herbal wellness products. We also offer advanced clinical training opportunities for students working toward becoming a Registered Herbalist with the American Herbalists Guild, our Clinic Practicum program and our annual Herbal Energetics course. For those curious about the power of plants (and want an opportunity to escape the city and visit our botanical sanctuary), we offer one-day workshops and a three day Herb Camp for adults.

For anyone wishing to discuss their health concerns and is interested in incorporating medicinal herbs into a holistic health regimen, Teresa offers wellness consultations by appointment weekly. All appointments can be arranged through our Scheduling Portal.

The mission of the Green Comfort School of Herbal Medicine is to educate and empower individuals to heal themselves using herbal medicine.

Green Comfort has created a botanical sanctuary at the base of the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia’s beautiful Shenandoah Valley. Our botanical sanctuary serves as rich depository for ‘at risk’ North American medicinal plants, and is part of the United Plant Savers network. The mission of United Plant Savers is to preserve, conserve and restore native medicinal plants and their habitats of the US and Canada, while ensuring their abundant, renewable supply for future generations. Green Comfort’s property serves as an example of the use of native plant species, plant conservation, as well as organic and biodynamic cultivation.

Frequently Asked Questions:

May I visit Green Comfort's botanical sanctuary?

All visits to our property need to be scheduled, either by registering for one of our classes, scheduling a wellness consultation appointment or by contacting green.comfort@gmail.com. We are not an apothecary or store, and therefore are only open when classes are in session and to meet with scheduled clients and private groups. If your organization to come to Green Comfort for a workshop taught by Teresa or one of your facilitators, that can be arranged by getting in touch with us through our Contact Form.

What should I bring to the class I am registered for?

All of our classes, whether they are one of our one-day Farmacology workshops or our extended programs, will include some time outside in addition to learning inside our yurt classroom. We ask that you dress weather appropriate and layer so you are comfortable both inside our heated/air conditioned yurt as well as outside. Since our school is tucked in the woods, we recommend you bring natural (deet-free) insect and tick repellent as well as sunscreen, a hat and sunglasses.

If the course you registered for requires a text book (as specified on the course page), please bring the text book with you to each class, as we refer to it frequently in our classes. Additionally, bring a notebook, pen, highlighter and anything else you need for note taking. Often students bring snacks to share with the class and Green Comfort will often provide snacks, but it is recommended that you bring a snack if you need it as well as a water bottle.

How can my organization book Teresa for a Speaking Engagement or Private Workshop?

Contact us through our Contact Form and tell us a little about your organization and the type of programming you are looking for. Be sure to let us know if you are interested in having Teresa travel to you or if you would like your group to come to Green Comfort for am event. Teresa will be in touch shortly after we receive your inquiry and will work with you to customize her workshop or speaking topic to you audience.
